Glamsters

Jackie Urbanovic has dazzled picture book enthusiasts with her amazing illustrations in Duck Soup and Duck at the Door. When you see the cover of Glamsters, you won't be able to resist picking up this fabulous picture book. Urbanovic has illustrated this charming story by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel.

Imagine calling Hamster World home. Well, Harriet the Hamster and her sister Patricia do and Harriet has a problem. All around her, hamsters are being adopted, while she and her sister can't even seem to get noticed. When Harriet reads the newspaper that lines their cage, she finds just the article she needs on how to be glamorous! Harriet thinks she's finally found the answer to her problem and transforms herself from hamster to glamster! With a little bit of carrot seed oil, whisker extensions, and a two-tone claw polish, all her dreams will come true...or will they?

Harriet goes all out and is full glam, but when Patricia wakes up--boy is she in for a surprise! Patricia persuades Harriet to revert back to her old self before Hamster World opens. Glamsters is a humorous tale that touches on the theme of 'just be yourself.' The illustrations are enough to pick up this book, but the text is an enjoyable and hilarious read that might have your young readers not only looking differently at themselves, but even those hamsters in your own Hamster World.
